Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a large pot, heat over medium heat and add the lean ground beef. Cook the beef thoroughly for about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until it's browned and no longer pink.
- Add finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the same pot. Sauté them for 3-4 minutes until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
- Stir in the chopped cabbage, ensuring it mixes well with the beef and aromatics. Cook for an additional 5-6 minutes until the cabbage begins to soften.
- Pour in the tomato sauce and add your chosen seasonings. If you’re including macaroni, add it at this stage as well.
- Lower the heat and cover the pot, letting the goulash simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Before serving, taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs or cheese if desired.

Notes
Serve with crusty bread or a salad for a complete meal. Making it a day in advance enhances the flavors.
