Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated yellow onion, ground beef, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, heavy cream, and egg. Mix until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into ¾ inch thick patties.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat with olive oil and unsalted butter. Sear each patty for about 4-5 minutes on one side.
  4. Remove the patties and add diced onions and minced garlic to the skillet, sautéing for about 2 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and flour over the sautéed onions and garlic. Stir continuously for about 1 minute.
  6. Gradually pour in chicken broth while stirring to deglaze the skillet. Let this simmer for 2 minutes.
  7. Stir in heavy cream and fresh dill, bringing to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer until thickened, stirring occasionally.
  8. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, simmer in the creamy dill sauce for an additional 5-6 minutes.
