  • 1 pound shrimp Fresh or thawed frozen, pat dry
  • 2 large eggs substitute with flax egg for vegan
  • ½ cup milk non-dairy milk works well
For the Coating
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder fresh garlic can substitute
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder optional
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika or regular paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust according to spice preference
  • 1 pinch salt kosher salt recommended
  • 1 pinch black pepper
For the Hot Honey Sauce
  • ½ cup honey or maple syrup for vegan option
  • 2-3 tablespoons hot sauce Frank's RedHot or Sriracha
  • 2 tablespoons butter dairy-free alternative for vegan
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or white vinegar
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes omit for milder flavor
For Frying
  • 2-3 cups vegetable oil canola or peanut oil may work

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small saucepan, combine honey, hot sauce, butter, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Heat over medium-low, stirring gently until the butter melts and the mixture is smooth, about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and milk until smooth.
  5. In a deep skillet, pour enough vegetable oil to fill about 2 inches deep. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Dredge each shrimp in the seasoned flour mixture, dip in egg wash, then coat in flour again.
  7. Carefully fry the shrimp in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. In a large bowl, gently toss fried shrimp with the hot honey sauce until well coated.
  9. Serve immediately while warm and crispy, with extra sauce on the side.
