Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Cream the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add in the egg and orange zest, mixing until incorporated.
  2. Sift in flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and cloves gradually, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  3. Wrap dough in plastic and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out dough to ¼ inch thickness and cut into shapes.
  5. Place cookie shapes on parchment-lined sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart. Bake for 12-16 minutes, until edges are light golden.
  6. Remove cookies from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  7. Prepare glaze by mixing powdered sugar with Cointreau or orange juice until smooth.
  8. Dip tops of cooled cookies into glaze or drizzle over them. Return cookies to sheets to set the glaze.
