Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cream the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add in the egg and orange zest, mixing until incorporated.
- Sift in flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and cloves gradually, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Wrap dough in plastic and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out dough to ¼ inch thickness and cut into shapes.
- Place cookie shapes on parchment-lined sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart. Bake for 12-16 minutes, until edges are light golden.
- Remove cookies from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Prepare glaze by mixing powdered sugar with Cointreau or orange juice until smooth.
- Dip tops of cooled cookies into glaze or drizzle over them. Return cookies to sheets to set the glaze.
- Return glazed cookies to oven for an additional 2-3 minutes, then cool completely.

Notes
Ensure butter is room temperature for better creaming. Don't skip chilling the dough for best results.
